I run an external dropper on my hardtail. I had a problem with it and had a bike trip coming up so was quickly trying to sort a replacement. I was shocked at how hard it was to find an external post available on hand in any of the local bike shops. Your region might differ but availability might an issue. My next bike is going to be internal if only for this reason.
