Hardly archaic. It’s been used for a long time but is still very much in use through out all sorts of industries. Still right at the front of materials science.

Welding temps/time for a lot of really high end tubing are what serves as the final stage of heat treating. If done right 853/spirit/etc end up stronger after being welded. Brazing temps/time don’t accomplish that.
That said lots of people braze those tubes anyway and it’s generally fine. But they’re intended to be welded. Reynolds used to make you weld a test joint before they’d sell you 753 tubes.
