BB/ST/DT Junction How Do You Tig It?

TIG Welds (velocipedesalon.com)
There’s some good info here about Weldmold 880 (AKA ER312). Also check out the heat affected zone on Archibald’s welds (IIRC that’s Don Ferris from Anvil … someone correct me if I’m wrong).

My quick and dirty summary is that ER312 wets out a bit better and seems to be a bit less “sticky” than ER70-S2 — this was especially true when I was a newbie. There’s less of a difference now.

100% agree about wanting a clear right/wrong esp when starting out.

I’m going to have to dig up my V Salon login to read that one

I also did not think about how many stainless joints NMW bikes use. There would be no good reason to swap fillers between joints.

Er312 is designed specifically for joining dissimilar metals but also works fine for similar metals. Our frames use a lot of stainless so Er312 is a must, even if I wasn’t using any stainless I’d stick with Er312 because I like the characteristics better.
