Belt sander recommendations – Example in thread

The beauty of the 3M belts is that they are aggressive enough to remove silver and brass, but they don’t eat the steel. You can get a way with murder using them and they are fast.

I do have some non 3M scotch brite-ish bands and I was not impressed, but sounds like I need the real deal.

Have just picked up a original style Dynabrade dynafile.

Belts the length it uses (610mm) in thin widths are impossible to get in NZ, but have a company that will make me 30mm widths that I can then cut down to whatever I want with a jig like this

Just wondering if anyone on here is cutting waves into their belts and if so, are you hand cutting or have you come up with a jig to do so? I’ve read that it helps feather the edges so it doesn’t cut in so hard.

I’m excited to have a play with this and also that it can take down to 3mm belts on this model.

Do you think it would be possible to trim down the 3m non woven/scotch Brite pads to be thinner? I know they have a backing that would slice but wondering how the actual material would take it?
