Bikecad for linux?

Did I imagine there being a linux option for bikecad or has it gone away?

I finally thought about installing bikecad (free) on my linux installation because I want to use Windows less because screw you microsoft, but now I don’t see the option for a linux version.

I believe you can run it via Wine

There still is a Linux version. Runs fine.

Edit : are you a Pro licence holder or are you talking about the free version?

The free version, I use it to get an idea of what a bike will look like, and then I use Fusion for the actual frame sketches and dimensions. (Which is my main piece of sotware keeping me on windows grrrr)

Ok, I can see a Linux pro version so I suspect maintaining the free version has just become too much.

I think Brent is on here from time to time. @BikeCAD

Isn’t it a Java program? It should therefore run on anything once you’ve endured the pain of trying to install whatever version of Java it wants. In theory. But it’s a few years since I tried it.

I haven’t used Windows since Windows 95, The below will certainly work on Linux.

I would contact Brent, he’s been very responsive to my questions in the past. The BikeCad site has had a Q&A sub forum/chat offering a while ago. I don’t know if that feature is still available but I suspect it’s where this answer will be had. Andy

There is a free version that runs inside your browser without installing anything. You can access that version in several places throughout the site, but the simplest way would be from: bikecad.ca/quickapplet. It will work on Mac, PC and Linux machines.

Although I offer free downloadable versions for Mac and PC, I do not currently have one for Linux, one issue with the downloadable versions is they are stuck at version 17.5 while BikeCAD Pro is at 22.0.

Ideally, I would just like to see everyone using BikeCAD Pro. If you can’t justify the cost of a lifetime license for your particular application, please send me an email. I can offer coupon codes to bring the price down to something you can work with.

Thank you Brent, I’ll keep playing around in the online version for now then.

If I ever need the pro features or if I start really using it to get work done I’ll definitely consider buying the pro version to support your work.
