Cutting carbon fibre round tubes

Hi, what is the best tool for straight cutting carbon fibre round tubes?

I’ve tried mitre saws, dremels and angle grinders with various blades with varying degrees of success but they are never perfectly straight and clean.

Ideally I dont want to have sand thr tube down after cutting.

Look forward to responses, thanks

Hi Daniel,

I have plenty of success using the park tool hacksaw blade for carbon fiber with a saw guide:

I’ve used my steerer sawguide for smaller stuff and 3D printed a simple tube block sawguide for nonstandard shape carbon. No splintering, clean cut, perfectly square.

Hope this helps!

There are diamond coated hole saws for carbon fiber. You can get them at places like Rockwest Composites. they are expensive.

Ive had a lot of luck with holesaws for cutting tile, you can get them at your local home depot or amazon for cheap. You want more of an abrasive blade than fine teeth. Don’t use a regular holesaw because you’ll likely delaminate your tubes.

Keep a shop vaccum nearby and wear your PPE.

Water jet is probably best, but not really practical for a home builder! Park carbon saw would be my recommendation too - you need to abrade the resin rather than cut the fibres (unlike cutting wood, hence why wood saws have teeth). You might find hole saws for cutting bathroom tiles work well too, but I haven’t tried it.
