The silver brazing joints that you upload, are they just finished with a hand file and sandpaper or do you use some tooling?

Cheers
Dan

Usually a file and shop roll (sand paper). If I get a bit out of shape with the brazing I might knock it down with a really slow rpm die grinder.

Always been a big fan of the turner DHR style linkage driven single pivot. On closer inspection this looks a little different, probably even better with an Horst link.. Are you going to 3D print the seattube tunnel? Looks awesome!

Yeah, this is a four bar Horst design. Shock driven off the swing via the linkage to seperate the wheel path from the shock progression. Though they are still tied together of course. What was really interesting in designing this bike was how much the Horst pivot position affected the leverage curve. Just a couple mm had a big affect.

Yes, teh whole middle section on teh bike is 3D printed. I couldn’t find any rectangle tubing of the right dimensions to reduce the printed section so. Any of the oval tubing wasn’t squashed enough for my design but I might be able to do my own ovalising. I really want to reduce how much I print the two uprights. have doen some preliminary pricing though and it is isn’t too bad.

Sean- I’m hoping to get some tips on brazing 316L 3DP parts.

I’m not loving TIG welding my 3/8” seat stays, so I want to try brazing them on my next frame.

Silver braze with standard silver brazing flux?

The parts will be glass bead blasted from Protosoon. Do the brazed areas need any additional smoothing? I’ve read that a rough surface won’t let the metal capillary and flow.

How much overlap inside the tube do you recommend?

Thanks for any input!

PS - give a warm hello to Boobar from Garth next time you see him.

Hey Garth,

Yes 56% with good flux. Heat control is the biggest trick here. Need to get good heat soak into the area with a broad hot spot. All I do is make sure there is a nice slding fit and bright fresh surface to braze. I just using a drum sander etc. You could probably get better flow by having the sanding marks go in the same direction that you want the silver to flow. Most of teh tube to print joints are an internal spigot style where I put a ring of silver on teh inside and melt out. You need to silver ring to be neat and touch teh tube all teh way round so you get a nice even heat transfer and then melt. Taking you time here increase the ability to wet the joint out nicely.

Will do, Boobar is an awesoem dude.

Cheers,

Sean

Thank you. Haha, I need to learn how to weld! My hands don’t like the post braze work as much anymore. Try to space teh finishing sessions out a bit.

Haha. They are chicken and vegetable somethings. Pie without the pan. Just great food. I’ve been struggling with sourdough in my gut lately. Don’t know whats going on there but I would eat that and deal with it cause it looks delicious.

Something I miss about living in the UK is the meat pasties. As you say, it’s just good food.
