.....Devlin Cycles

Has been a bit quiet in my workshop of late. Started getting ready for my move to Maydena. Am doing a few last things though and a replacement shorter front end to a Jester.

It’s been a while. An update. I have relocated myself and my workshop to Maydena Bike Park in Tasmania. Has been a lot of work and a small fortune to do but I have a new space that I’ve been able to dress up nicely and I camped right next to the crowd I am wanting to sell my mtb frames to.

Next weekend Redbull Hardline is happening right out front of my door and I hope it’s the relaunch of the Devlin brand and I get the kick along. It’s a tough market. Especially in Australia but you have to try things to see if they work.

The space is obviouslly smaller but I am only putting in it the tools etc. that I actually use and need. There will be a lean-to on the back side that will be my storage area. I’ve refined the fabrication of the mtb’s with more 3d printed parts and making construction more straight forward. There will be less hacking stuff from raw materials and a more precise production process, reducing waste. I’ll be making new compact jigs and they will be dedicated, one for road/gravel and three for mtb as there will be three different layouts going forward.

Exciting times ahead, though I am tired and need a few days off after Hardline is wrapped up. I have been getting in some sick riding and my jumping has progressed in leaps and bounds…pun intended…for an old XC roadie type.

That’s awesome! The set-up looks pretty sick!

I would totally drink coffee, eat cake and watch how my frame is built, open-kitchen style

I love those containers. It seems like a great way to build a workable space and then expand when you need the extra space. You could add paint booth or an office.

Cheering for you up here in Seattle!

I was tired of working in a ratty cluttered workshop. It was depressing at times. This feels motivating already.

Hah. Yeah I hope I can faciltate that sort of thing. I ahve some ideas for involving the customer during the build of their frame.

Their definitely is scope to add another fitted out container. I think i will need that clean space/bike assenbly/office sepearte from the studio.

I’m not keen on doing the painting myself. There is a powder coater here in Hobart that looks like his work is top shelf for the mtb’s. The road/gravel frames will still get epoxy but may shift to a dfferent painter.

I have spent the past year + insulating, adding heat/AC and organizing my space. I totally know what you’re saying! It was 30*F here today and I was comfortable working in a t-shirt! Keep grinding!

A bit of a tidy up and temporary set up. I will eventually swap the bench and reference table over when the under bench cabinets arrive.

and some fresh frames I had at the painter while I was relocating.
