DTD - Disc Tab Directory

Just want to give this initiative a push.

Stridsland launched a directory to list builders worldwide who can modify and repair frames.

Might be something a few of us here would like to be added to.

A few points: it seems that the builder (or shop) can be listed by anyone, true? I hope all who are listed want the exposure whether they list themselves or someone else did.

I see no builder ā€œstandards/qualificationsā€ asked for, like insurance covering fabrication (and not just common retail/service policies shops usually buy). So what is a ā€œbuilder?

Some people out there don’t use Instagram. Any plans to post to more sites? Andy.

Feel free to contact Stridsland about that. It’s not my list. I merely shared it here as I thought it was a fun and potentially useful initiative.

Many lists have been started in the past, but have gained very little traction. Figured I’d give this one a push.

My personal comments in response to your notes:

I’d expect that a builder or fabricator who puts their work on display to the public via services on the internet, such as Instagram, that can be indexed by search engines etc, and advertise that they do work commercially, would have no objection to be listed in a compiled ā€˜database’.

Regardless, the method of being added to the list appears to be to send an email to Matias Stridsland, who will then add you. As such, it’s a somewhat curated list and the person running the list will be checking submissions.

Do you ever see such qualifications listed on any small-scale builder’s websites or social media? I can’t recall ever seeing it. Do even the larger-scale builders publish such details? I can’t recall ever seeing such details on any commercial website related to bicycle fabrication.
I certainly didn’t post details about my insurance when I was actively seeking new commissions.

I fail to see why such a detail is suddenly important just because it’s an index of builders. A potential customer would certainly be welcome to ask their builder of choice. Especially those located in a litigious country like the US.

Instagram seems to be the most popular method for builders to put their work out there these days.

I’m sure, if you ask, Stridsland can put any URL on the list. After all, the header for that column is ā€œLinkā€, and not specifically ā€œInstagram handleā€.

Stridsland puts out a post asking builders who wanted to be on a list for disc conversions.

Very nice of him to do the work

It’s an international list and insurance and liability are very regional, so it makes sense that he’s trusting people who list themselves to be professional. It’s not a vetted list.

I’m a strict amateur and never build for others so I’m not adding myself.
