So it looks like I’ve bagged a tyre. What is everyone doing for rims? There isn’t much choice and I’m left with the choice of either expensive or portly.
What is the name of the Dutch guys rolling their own rims? Or is it worth doing some 2000s trials style drillium?
Any thoughts?

I want one
I’m not even tall and I want one too!
Once tires are available I will build one.
for some reason I hadn’t really considered how fun a single speed 32" bike would be. I love it!
Nextie Makes 32" Carbon Rims for a great price. Probably the route I would go.
I have some of those Nextie rims heading my way to the UK so if anyone’s looking for some, give me a shout and I can set some aside for you. I also have stock now of both the Maxxis Aspen and Vee T-Monster 32x2.4 tyres.
I have a set of i9 1/1 hubs I got at close out for this purpose. Once tires are available I will start the build.
I got to get my BikeCad drawing ready.
@Daniel_Y any tips or tricks for a 32”. Anything you would change in the design?
What’s the weight of the Maxxis Aspen 32x2.4? The T-Monster looks painfully heavy at 1,400g.
Overall rolling weight was one of my gripes with a 29x3.0 setup. Not as much an acceleration issue, but a momentum issue. I sometimes felt like it was too much rolling momentum to control.
Acceleration isn’t very important on road or even track sprint bikes IMHO, or at least it’s importance is exaggerated. But for singletrack, you sometimes have to do very short, very explosive accelerations when climbing, to get over one little problem like root, rock, water bar… There’s nothing close to that on a road bike. So I think low angular-momentum is MORE important if you ride technical singletrack, than even track sprint.
@JMY Are you guys gonna do a new 32" version of the Titanosaur? I’m loving the idea of a 32" Tour Divide Rig.
Some design considerations you may not think of are gear inches and seaptost offset.
Gear Inches - For 32" wheels you need roughly a -2t Chainring to get equivalent 29" gear inches so you can get away with designing the frame around a smaller chainring to shorten the rear end as much as possible.
Seatpost Offset - If you incorporate seatpost offset into your effective seat angle then you can again keep the rear end as short as possible. Below are the best setback dropper solutions.
It’s on my ever-growing list of things to do.
Haven’t gotten around to playing with the geo for a mini-titanosaur yet.
I have been a fan of wheels proportional to the rider’s size for decades. Mostly in the other direction (622x520, dual 559s 571s 584s) though. What i don’t like is trading off fit and rider needs for a bigger wheel size. I’ve seen way too many smaller riders suffering with way too much wheel diameter. But being only 5’6" I tend to pay attention to these riders… Andy
The Aspen is about 820g
Anyone know when these tires will be available to purchase?
I have them in stock now.
