Looking For: US Anodizing Services, Small Quantities

Every so often, I get a call but I can’t recommend the company we use because of volume. Not enough parts to reach the minimum (50 of the same part)

Does anyone have place I can direct my inquirers?

I’m sure there are places closer, but TruTone in Brooklyn gets used by a lot of places doing small batch decorative work. I think they have a minimum fee, but no part minimum. They don’t do surface conditioning, only anodizing - you want brushed, send it brushed, etc…

I’ve found them pleasant and easy to work with, but I can’t speak to what the experience might be if shipment is involved. I also try to be very conscious of a vendor’s time, and cognizant that I am not a significant revenue source, and try to keep my requests appropriate.

I’d also suggest people just reach out to whoever is local. A phone call and a brief discussion of standards can go a long way. Look for shops that don’t seem as big.

Sending an email will probably not get a response when they see you just have this one cool stem you machined or whatever, but if you call or pop by the office on a Friday might get you somewhere.

Biggest rule of doing small stuff with companies used to running production is don’t waste their time! They don’t need your $100! So, you know, make it easy for them. Make them think you have your shit together, so why shouldn’t they scoop up $100 to throw a couple more parts on the rack.

Advanced Precision Anodizing in Oregon does small runs. I believe they have no part minimum, but a minimum charge of maybe $60. Also typically have decent lead times.

I’ve gone through @ashley.anodized.it. She quoted $150 for a single White Ind headset in gold. I haven’t got the part back yet but communication through IG has been good. She does some Incredible splatter and custom ano work mostly but her employer does more standard single color ano work.
