Im registering. Will decide later if I head over.
Edit: Done!
That is great. I will be coming out to look but my bikes are not good enough to show yet.
Yes, come visit us! We love giving shop tours!
We (@Neuhaus_Metalworks + me) signed up!
The more important questions:
Does someone in Portland have the beta? An urban city tour + coffee stop would be really fun and accessible for everyone.
Also down to do a bigger road/gravel/mtb ride
PDX riding is pretty flat. If you want to fit in, bring a Riv with Albatross bars, Crust with MUSA bling, or a fixie (dream of the 90s etc). If you want to stand out, a mtb would be pretty out of place. There’s good gravel riding nearby-ish and some great mountain biking in the Hood River area.
A coffee tour will quickly drain your wallet because there are far too many cute shops in the area.
It looks like I’ll be attending as well! Going to try and ride the DD300 from Olympia to Portland, hang out for a few weeks, then do the show. Should be a fun bike-filled month!
Currently waffling on what to build for the show. I have some weird ideas but nothing solid. Would be kinda fun to do an unofficial “contest” if anyone else wanted to go in on that!
I’m planning to do the DD300 as well!
I signed up and am genuinely looking forward to this event. It’s been noted that the organizers originally offered free (small) space to new builders and that ultimately changed to a $200 subsidized space, which is still quite reasonable. They also said that BikeFlights was offering discounted bike shipping to help get builders there. Hopefully that is still on the table, though I understand the travel/lodging is the lion’s share of the expense to come from afar. I have not yet gone to PBE because of the distance/expense, but this show is a 5-hour drive so no excuse not to go.
I look forward to meeting those of you who are going!
Yes! Snagged the spot right next to you.
Oh, now that’s an idea. If I can find the time to go out early enough I’d love to front-load a bikepacking trip onto the show!
I saw on IG that there’s more booths available. This show is getting larger than we thought!
I’m still iffy about heading over. The cost is eyewatering at the moment. FOMO has set in bad and it’s months away.
Haha. At least he’s on wheels.
Hi all, first post - I’ll post in the intro thread later. Not a frame builder, but a wanna-be for sure.
That said, I’ve lived in Portland for about 15 years now and am stoked this show will be here, I’ve always wanted to go to NAHBS, PBE, Sea Otter, etc but never pulled the trigger. I reached out to the organizers a while ago inquiring about public entry but they haven’t given me any details yet. If I’m in town I’ll be there to drool over all of the functional artwork you all make. Also happy to take some folks mountain biking if there is interest.
As a few have mentioned, our town is pretty cycle-friendly and any bike you bring with you will have an opportunity to be ridden. In the city you’ll see a lot of roadies setting koms being passed by e-bikes while commuting to work. Lots of baskets, hipsters, old lugged frames, shiny new carbon, and you might bump into a local frame builder or two on the regular. I can’t judge because I’ve been all of those at one point during my time here.
Some bike route/trail resources for any that are interested (not an exhaustive list, just the ones I’m familiar with):
I don’t ride the road anymore, so can’t speak directly to that, but the road scene here is pretty good with lots of people taking to the west hills. If you want to adventure further afield, there are great mountain biking areas mostly along the I-5 corridor.
Hopefully, I’ll see some of you all there!
I’ll be there and really looking forward to it as it’s my first real show. Got a VRBO not too far away and will absolutely looking to ride as much as possible, mingle, learn, laugh, and maybe even have a beer or 6. Looking forward to meeting everyone as well. Should be a blast.
I got a booth, number 262. I’m building under the name “mostly forever”.
Biggest hurdle was insurance, but I’ve got that now. Lots of good information in this thread Insurance for things you make
Website coming soonish. As everyone states, I’m learning building the bike stuff is the easier/more enjoyable part of trying to do this as a source of income.
Looking forward to meeting people!
If you go to the Made.bike website, you can see the bio/intros to builders on the big map of booths. I thought this was so cool!
The PR machine for Made is starting to ramp up. Hear Bill Sinkford on the BikePortland podcast. Interesting connection between the City of Portland and hand built bikes.
thanks, @Coco_PMW that was a good listen. Pretty cool to understand what PR companies actually do and hear more about the Portland bike friendly culture.
