In my short stint in PR, I explained it this way: In traditional roles, Marketing, Sales, and Public Relations have different roles. Marketing tells every everyone that the Circus is in town. Sales sells tickets to the Circus. Public Relations cleans up the mess when the lions escape into town
Any local builders or shops in Portland that would be cool receiving show bike shipments for folks coming from out of town?
Anyone here attending but not as an exhibitor? I want to make sure I bring enough stickers.
Can’t you send them directly to Made? Do they offer something like that? Otherwise I wonder if you can ship them and have UPS/FedEx hold them in their facility until you go get them.
Not really an answer to your question, but related to shipping: we are trying out a new shipper: https://www.thru.bike/
I know a few custom companies who already use Thru Bike. They will ship fully assembled bikes for ~$250. Right now their coverage and delivery time are better west of the Mississippi, but since MADE is a big event, I’m sure they can work out the details.
It’s a good option that avoids: packing > unpacking > building up a bike> packing > unpacking
In their last mailer, Made mentioned a special deal with bike flights, and that they would coordinate with bike flights to store the show bikes and have them delivered to the event space the morning of move-in.
Builders, check your email from Robert Axle Project. I don’t know what they want in exchange but they’re giving out axles to bike building exhibitors.
Too bad I already have all these beautiful Paragon axles
Any planned meet ups? I’m hopping a train from Sacramento arriving on Friday afternoon with bike and will be there through Monday afternoon. Staying about a half mile or so from the show.
Hopping a train, as in train hopping? If so, stop by and tell us about it. Haven’t enjoyed this for years, I’d love to hear how things are these days.
Pic from riding to Moab one October in the late 80s. We had bikes, but they’re behind the camera.
Let me try to pull some internal details from MADE, and see if there are any gatherings we can piggyback off or parties to crash.
Regardless, anyone is welcome to stop by the Neuhaus booth, I will have my laptop so we can get nerdy!
Ha! I wish. I’m taking the Coast Startlight and checking a bike.
Hope to see you all there!
I’ll be the goofy guy walking around and staring at bikes while mumbling “Oh, that’s cool”
So I should be pretty easy to spot.
Excited to see everyone at MADE and talk enginerd bikes with y’all!
Has anyone caught wind of events outside of the show? I think it could be useful to compile a list.
Rides, meetups, tours, after-shin digs?
If anyone is interested in joining me for a ride the morning of Wed Aug 23, I plan to do this ride before setting up my space at the show.
I know nothing about the ride. Just picked something from RidewithGPS that looked fun and could be ridden from my Airbnb.
Sharp dressed like Gary Fisher
Oh this is good!
Rigid Carbon fork, white industries cranks
Brilliant! I wish I was this smart.
