Cleaning a bunch of bike parts out of the garage and came across these Pacenti PDent carbon bars that never made it to production. These are 31.8mm pre-production bars made before I switched to 35mm diameter for the final version. The pre-production parts are easily identifiable because there is no “P” in the red area on the bar, and they also say “patent pending” rather than listing the patent number.
The dimple system works exactly as designed—though there no aftermarket stems currently available that can take full advantage of it, but they mount fine with standard stems. Someone with machining skills (or access) could make a custom stem as short as 20.1mm to use the dimple properly.
Tested to EU standards, actually stronger than conventional bars despite what you’d think about the dimple. The original PDent concept picked up several industry “product of the year” awards in 2014 / 2015. These bars were made in a premier carbon facility in Taiwan, that also makes (or made) the lugs for Colnago’s “C” series frames for many years; really good stuff!
