Pinion smartshift battery placement

I’m building a DH/enduro frame with Pinion smartshift. While I don’t have the parts in hand yet, the battery pack seems huge and won’t fit inside a steel downtube.

Has anyone made their own battery pack? Seems like it is 2x 18650 cells.

Options would be

1. Have the 18650 cells in conjunction
2. Have 2x 14500 cells.

Both options would require custom casing for the battery pack obviously.

Does the pack have any electronics or is it just branching for shifter/gearbox/charger (connector has 6 poles)?

Of course it voids the warranty, but you can carefully slit the rubber housing on the stock pinion part and realign the two cells without soldering anything. Put some fancy heat shrink over it and you’re good to go.

Got the actual battery in hand, fits perfectly inside 42 x 0.9 tube Such a relief!!
