Seen around the web!

Jer Schmidt built a cargo bike. He does a phenomenal job on his other projects, so I’m sure there’s something to be learned from this one. Also interesting to see what someone who isn’t a recreational cyclist brings to the craft of frame building.

Hah I just watched this video this morning – and was going to post it here, but you beat me to it!

Just found this website, which has something I’d previously thought of building: an interactive map listing framebuilders around the globe!

“Merlin has teamed up with Silca and Yang Manufacturing to update the Newsboy to modern standards while still retaining the iconic looks of the original Newsboy.”

Is this the same Yang mfg we all have grown to know and love?

Thanks! That was a really fun project. It was one of the fanciest CAD’s I have done so far. I will make a deep-dive post when I get a chance. During the release of that product, I was able to learn a lot about branding, marketing, graphic design, etc…

Two bikes on two different sites, built by two different forum members. Cool! @poopieprancer Readers rig and @bushtrucker Readers ride

Very cool, Geoff is the man, and Ben’s bike looks sssssick. Sorry y’all I’ve been totally absent from the forum for a few months. Been distracted with various things, but I did build my first segmented fork and am itching to build my next frame.

Thanks for the heads up! I grabbed some photos in case people missed the links. I love well-used steel hardtails. I feel like it’s the only bike that looks better worn down!

Ay cheers for sharing. Also, just to be clear my frame was built by Darren over at Larkin Cycles. It’s been a great bike though. BikeCAD below for the geo nerds. I’m 6’0" with long legs!

Stumbled across this GCN youtube of the Moots factory tour with some nice shots of some custom tools and mitering fixtures.

This is worth a read:

I have never heard of Vetra before. The article goes pretty deep into art and business. Definitely worth a read.

Here is an excerpt:

The problem, from the business perspective, is that his process is an iterative, non-linear one fraught with side-quests that burn nerves, time, and money. And as a professional framebuilder—he chuckles when I call him that—he can’t ignore such realities. […] So full custom work is a sure path to burning out and probably going belly up as a business. Brazing the metal frame is relatively speedy, but it’s the communication and iterations over iterations to generate the concept and design that can’t be easily accelerated.

Great job @Neuhaus_Metalworks and @Daniel_Y

HOT DAMN!!

Thats some mighty fine looking steel frame building there. accompanied by some equally as interesting suspension design. @WHilgenberg has not been taking things easy at all. well done!

That looks good. I do need a new full suspension bike soon.

Saw this beauty at MADE. Looks fantastic in person and is a fascinating concept, putting the whole suspension into a unit that the frame is built around. I’ll be following this company with interest.

Have a listen to PVD interview with Will Hilgenberg at MADE. I had dismissed the concept as just being over engineered etc. but he makes some compelling arguments for this style of assembly.

I may need one of these. It looks so nice.

You know if you had questions you could have just asked. . .

Glad to hear that it’s making more sense! We definitely don’t want to do something just to be different, it has to be worth the effort for some performance gain as well. And, because I’m a lazy fabricator, it has to make the process easier. FS bikes (as you well know) are not easy to make.

And thank you @scharencycles! It sounds like we should put together a separate development thread up here for all the juicy details of the development process.
