what’s every one favorite tig welding hood/ helmet ??
I have my old welding hood that I have used for stick welding/ mig back in the day it was a hobby 90$ Jackson safety unit and its not working I am getting blinded…
I am barrowing a buddy’s Optrel Panoramaxx 2.5 Welding Helmet… that that thing is very nice and now I am spoiled and that helmet is like 630$$ cdn… soo ya what are people liking and have had good luck with…
I have a Lincoln Viking 3350 that I really like but I haven’t tried many other options. Still on the expensive side but you can find them for ~$350USD.
It’s quite nice but still has a bit of that LED green tint. (Not as bad as budget helmets though).
For a passive helmet I use a Jackson Safety WH10 HLX 100 with a shade 9 or shade 10 lens (more of a blue tint not green). The fit system on the Jackson is so much nicer than the Miller and its so much lighter . . . . huge difference if you’re spending hours under the hood for sure.
FYI, the fit system that the nicer Optrel helmets (ISOFit, IIRC) use are freaking fantastic and the most comfortable system I’ve ever used. If you’re particular about fit and are going to spend a lot of time under the hood, its worth the purchase.
I tried out the ESAB helmets not too long ago. I ran into issues with the sensors . . . they just don’t seem to be placed right for me.
I bought the cheapest autodark optrel hood, the neo p550. It’s got a really good lens for the money (i paid around 200 €), but the fastening system isn’t nearly as nice as the more expensive ones. After a couple hours under the hood it can start to become uncomfortable. I hardly ever weld more than 3 hours a day anyway, so i think it works really well for me. The adjustability is great and the vision is also really nice.
