Small Parts Resources

I am just starting my first frame (well second but the first was 20 years ago. I am working on a hardtail first but working on the design and kinematics of a single pivot.

I have found all of the actual framebuilding parts but wondering where everyone is getting their odds and ends from or what material they are using.

A few examples:

  • What type of steel plate to use for bracing
  • Tubing to use for shock mount
  • Threaded collar and bolts for shock mount
  • Bearings / bushings

My main thought is to use McMaster Carr but wondering if there are better options out there?

Thanks all and I will probably be posting some drawings and linkage charts for feedback

Send cut send has been very useful for all the flat steel. They have 4130 in many thicknesses as well as stainless. Not trying to sound like an ad, but I’ve used it for head badges, dropouts, brake mounts, brake fixture and a few other things as well.

If you are in the USA, Aircraft Spruce has a pretty decent selection of 4130 tubing in various wall thickness.(thicknesses?) Also Stainless Tubing, but I only used them for bottle cages and racks so far.

Aircraft Spruce has a European site as well, but at first sight it does look like prices on their 4130 tubing at least are a fair bit higher here.

Thanks. I’ll check them out.

So many little pieces to find and buy!!!

You have to add customs, too!
