Stainless MTB Tubing

Hi folks.

Apologies, I realise this has been loosely covered before but I don’t think my query has been done. Please let me know if I’m mistaken.

I’ve become more and more interested in building a stainless version of my T16 full squish frame.

I’m in the UK, Reynolds 931 tubing would be perfect but they don’t offer it in wall thicknesses appropriate for a trail mtb (for most humans).

Are there any sources out there that I may have overlooked?

Ideally I’d need
38.10.9/0.6/0.9
31.7
0.9/0.6/0.9
34.9 seat tube of some similar thickness…

Is KVA still in business??

Cheers!
Thom

Did you check Reynolds 931?

yeah KVA is still going, I’m in the UK and just took delivery of some tubes last week!

Thanks for letting me know. I must have emailed them a handful of times over the last few years and never seem to get a response.

I wonder if you have a contact there?

sure, contact I have is Joe, was super helpful and the email address I used was jmccrink@kvastainless.com was a good few days sometimes between replies so not sure he’s on it full time maybe? I was in touch over a year ago with them too on the same email address, didn’t buy tubes that time but i remember it was always a good few days between contact then as well. Not sure if you have the latest tube guide but I did find that the tubes he had in stock didn’t really match the guide

Nico from Egerie has been building stainless fullies and when I asked he told me he got Reynolds to make him some fitting tubes. Had been wondering the same myself for some time, but just moved on to titanium I think.

Cheers! This is good to know, I already fired an email in to Reynolds but wasn’t too hopeful they could do it on a small quantity. We’ll see :crossed_fingers:

Just in case anyone’s following…Reynolds said no :sob:

Still hopeful I can spend a lot of money for not a lot of tubes with KVA :crossed_fingers:

Then I can have some fun brazing it all :grimacing:

Their pricing isn’t too bad compared to what we pay for say Columbus tubes here in Australia. It’s the shipping that is like handing over your first born.

No, tbh most of the main tubes are comparable in price to what I’m paying for Reynolds 853. But there are some super pricey ones such as the seat tube I’d be looking at for example.

Yeah and the CS are more too…but then the savings on paint would offset that by a long way. I reckon I’d still have a bit of paint on mine If I went down that path.

haha for sure! I needed the tubes in a hurry… paid more for the shipping than the tubing…!

Could see if ORA will sell stainless tubing. They do show their Ti options on the site, digging through their stainless frames they have suitable stainless tubing in 630 and 2205 duplex.

I would like to see tube suppliers offer more substantial profiles suitable for welded frames. 1.2-.9.1.2 if im asking

Cheers, good shout. I’ll try asking Ora but their MOQ is usually pretty substantial unless anything has changed.
Right now I’m considering building something with the tubing I can get hold of off the shelf before potentially coughing up for some custom tubing.

Maybe if enough people hound them they might lower their MOQ?
