WTB: old “imperial oval” 29x16 fork blades

I’ve got an old fork crown that I want to use because I’m a penny pincher and don’t want to buy a new crown, but it uses the old 29x16 fork blades. Does anybody have a set lying around? It’s going on a track bike so it doesn’t need to be long. Just decently sturdy.

Real track bikes use round blades, not road intended ones. Not that this is a deal killer. IIRC Kaisei (the current name for the older Ishiwata brand) offers 29x16 blades. Rene Herse Cycles is the NA importer. If you can’t find any about get back to me and I’ll do a deep dive into my back stock and see if I have any left. Andy

I’ll probably end up with those Rene Herse ones. I saw them in my search, just curious if anyone else has some because I’m a cheap bastard.

I’m also not a perfectionist when it comes to building “classic” bikes. I usually just build whatever I can find. lol

I appreciate the offer and I’ll let you know.

Sure, but the “unreal” track bikes I made with oval blades were used to win a dozen or more medals at Nationals, including about 4 golds (I forget) in Match Sprint. They were used in two Olympics (eliminated in the 1st round unfortunately), and a Silver at Worlds. Didn’t seem to slow those folks down too much, but maybe that Silver could have been a Gold if the blades had been round? We’ll never know.

But I haven’t seen round blades make the podium in any major track meet in the last 20 years or so, so your info may be a tad out of date. Or I haven’t been paying attention. Yeah, probably that. (Yes I know forks don’t go up on the podium… I claim poetic license.)

If any of that sounds snarky, I apologize, I’m on strong pain medication.

Mark- Of course you’re right. My comment was tongue in cheek. Hope you feel better soon. Andy

Oh yeah I got that, me too. Except for the bragging, that was heartfelt

I shouldn’t have even mentioned it, it was one day of pain after a minor surgery, all good now thanks.
