Ben’s Front triangles

Yeah I do! I have been thinking about a Klunker.

If going klunk, you gotta go all in with coaster brake only.

New bike is feeling real nice.

I made this one 25mm longer for a direct comparison.

Jeez, you’re pumping out the frames as if they were cookies!

@Luniz82 Yeah, it is getting easier each time. I’m really enjoying learning to make these and I get better each time so I’m excited to see what the next one looks like. Also, we had a pretty dry winter this year so I wasn’t snowboarding as much as I would normally. I took advantage of that time to make a frame or 3.

My wife and brother ride these as well so my goal is that we each have a DH one and a enduro one. The first 2 or 3 should probably be retired due to sketchy welding and rust.

The Longboi is done. Feels long but very balanced and planted. It corners real nice in the driveway. I wanted to load the front tire more and it looks like it worked. I’m looking forward to comparing them this summer!

I normally don’t like anything above 475mm reach but I was curious again.

485 reach
435/440/450/455/460 chain stay lengths (different seatstays)
340 bb height
30% progression
3.2 starting leverage ratio
63.5* head angle
170mm fork
170-200mm rear travel

Awesome work man. Looks great!

Looking good. @Bucko how tall are you? I am just working on finalizing numbers for the next one, current one I feel I went too long in reach, having trouble getting weight onto the front wheel when it’s not stupid steep. It’s also too slack, 62.5 is too far. But you gotta go too far to know what’s too far. Going back to the 63.7 I had on my previous one.

@earle.b
I’m 1.85m with a moldy lower back but like to corner & manual so I prefer bikes on the shorter side. I tend to like around a 465mm reach but when I ride over my head with fast DH guys I feel like I need some more stability. I’m playing around with a 465mm reach and a 455/460mm chainstay on one bike and this one I can run slightly shorter chain stays and longer reach. Kinda like keeping the wheelbase the same but moving the fc:rc ratio around.
I’m a great passenger when the reach gets over 475mm and have troubles piloting. Maybe my front wheel wasn’t loaded enough? I have a hard time throwing the bike into corners and get high sided or stood up when it’s too long.

Yes, I agree that 62.5 is probably too slack and would need a short fork, long CS and a high bb to properly load the front wheel when the g-outs start. I’m trying to get it feeling balanced in the middle so you get front wheel grip all the time. I think that is harder to do with a big travel mullet than a same wheel sized bike.

I see you rock the flat pedal thunder?

I too have found that I prefer shorter bike than what would be considered proper for my size. Got a little feeling that flat riders tend to want to be more upright to put weight through the heels, in turn I like to not feel like a tarp stretched out over some tent frame.

Bruni seems to be an exception to this as a clips rider, but he honestly looks like a flats rider though. Open shoulders and chest, keeping his head dead still and letting the legs (the strong things on our corpses!) do all the work. He just looks so different to all the other WC riders.

Love the idea of playing with the fc:rc ratio.

May testing bring you much fun.

Yeah, I ride flat pedals all the time.

Bruni is incredible! I saw him ride in Lourdes at the WC DH test event last weekend.

The longer chain stays and longer reach felt nice and balanced at speed. I can still manual it pretty good. It’s around 15mm longer in the back and 25mm longer in the front then my last one.

I’m really enjoying this longer one. It was feeling very nice today.

And one with the seat down in DH mode thanks to the Aenomaly Switchgrade. I love that thing!

What length dropper is that?

@Spencermon
It’s a 210mm One Up.

That’s a fun proper bike. I’m not yet making FS bikes but my hardtail is going to have a 240mm dropper for my 5’11” body.

Nice. I haven’t figured out how to squeeze a 240 in there. I think I would have to reduce the travel so the seatstay yoke doesn’t hit at bottom out if I try.

We had lotsa fun testing different versions yesterday. I had my first weld failure but luckily it was on a cable guide.

We rode moto in the afternoon to get the shuttle truck. Good times.

I had a frame that was too short and steep for my riding locally. I don’t do much of the jibbing and play biking I used to do because of a sore moldy back. So, I cut out the top and down tubes of a short and steep frame to make a long and steep front triangle. 64* with a bit more reach than I normally run on this one. I rode it in the mud yesterday before the Linseed oil was even dry. It feels really good! I’m loving playing around with geometry and comparing ideas of balance and grip. Fun stuff.

Here’s my latest one.
