Snowboards and MTBs are my 2 favourite hobbies. Nice work on those boards they look awesome. Especially digging the middle one, shape looks super fun and the dark wood finish is :ok_hand:! What length?

Recently got the chance to check out the Gentemstick showroom they are really nice snowboards. Beautifully crafted, unique shapes, and clean finishing!

To keep it somewhat bike related, I really liked the custom seat post binder on the first DH frame in the post. Some classic steel style on a new aged steel beast!

Thanks @Night.Owl
I would love to see all those Gentemsticks! They make beautiful stuff. So many shapes!
It’s a 162w. I want to find some more of that dark wood veneer. I like that one too.

Some progress over the weekend. I got the tubes in there and the gussets on. Now I just need to do the shock mount and cable guides! I think I will go with a slightly lower starting leverage ratio and a higher bb to load the the front wheel in corners a bit more on this one.

Damn that looks good. The little seat tube guesset really gets me.

What thickness are you using for the shock mounts?

Really love your work, it looks fantastic! I’m actually planning to do something similar, making a longer front end for my old Saracen Myst…

Anyway, would you tell me the tube dimension (and manufacturer) you used for that downtube and if that bend was made on the aforementioned Toob Bender?

Thanks. I used 2.5mm thick 4130 for the shock mount. I hope that’s thick enough. On the ones with a shorter shock mount it holds up but maybe I should have gone thicker on this one? We will see.

Thanks @Luniz82

That’ll be a cool project with the Saracen!

It’s a strait gauge 38.1mm 4130 tube from Ceeway. I used the Toob Bender and did a second bend to get a little more bend than is possible with one try. I wanted to make sure it clears every shock piggyback at bottom out.

I think you’ll be fine with that. 4130 is bloody strong stuff and it’s tied together with the shock mount.

Andy at BFS has a good selection of DT’s and can bend 38 tube up to about 21-22 degrees.

Metal Guru might be able to do similar.

Ok cool! I initially thought it would be fine but then after it was done, I wasn’t sure… haha.

I dropped off this one at the body shop for some clear coat yesterday. Here’s a few pics of it finished.

I used a cut off price of a hole saw arbor for the captive nut on the lower shock mount.

Back from the local body shop with a coat of clear. I’m not sure how durable this will be but I’ll find out soon enough. This one has 150-170mm of rear travel. I need another dropper post and drivetrain if I want to build it up for enduro. If it feels sweet then it gets all my good parts.

Here are some pics before I started building it up.

Making the shock hardware a little nicer.

Temporary freeride build. I need a dropper post and drivetrain before I can build it up for real.

Oh wow, this looks mint!

Did you get your lathe running true now by the way? I’ve recently also played around with a Schaublin 102 and was surprised by the total lack of adjustability there… On that one, the tail stock was 0,25mm too low, which is a lot. I can only imagine that the tail stock was ground to fit a specific bed when it was manufactured. Maybe the tail stocks have been mixed up at a later point. There is no way a hardened iron casting can wear down 0.25mm

Looks awesome man!

Thanks! I’m happy with how this one turned out.

I haven’t figured out anything yet with my lathe. I just try and work around what I have for now. I have a friend that wants to store a Schaublin 102VM at my house for a couple years so I’m waiting for that.

Thanks @DEVLINCC !

Came out mint!
