Usually fuse welded but could be silver brazed too

Cool- I have some of these from solid but I’m always on the fence about how to attach them lol. Silver would be sick looking but I’m leery for BMX application :man_shrugging:

Attached is attached as long as you know you know the silver flowed through the entire joint. It’s also being held together by the fork/steer tube so any failure will be minor in the grand scheme of headtube failures.

Some custom BMX love down under at the Radavist:

This bike from BMX50/BMX Chop Shop has some cool stuf going on. IS headtube, custom dropouts, disc brakes, carbon, etc…

Not sure how the chain tensioning works:

Finally, a good use of flatmount. looks like a 120mm rotor?

The first frame I built was a, to put it mildly, a bit of a disaster. Lugged frame, lots of improvisation during the build, and the geo ended up less than ideal.

So, why not go ahead and build a fillet brazed BMX for attempt number 2?

I convinced S&M to sell me two “frame kits” with unmitered tubes and pre-bent stays and proceeded with building a frame for myself. In 2017 I chipped away at the cutting and mitering during weekends and late evenings in the garage.

Here are some snaps from the process along with the final result.

Love the stay caps!If i remember correctly, your bmx builds were a big inspiration to me back then, were you the one that made the brazed chainstays plate/guard?

Cheers!
I think you may remember correctly. The second BMX frame I built got a pair of stainless chainstay guards.

When talking about wishbone rear ends, the T1 Barcode can’t be left out! It’s the only design in which I like how the wishbone looks. I am contemplating the idea of employing a similar design in 26" dirtjump/pumptrack bike or even on a hardtail MTB.

Photos can be found here. BMX Museum – 1999 Terrible One Barcode and here Terribleone.com.

Ted James is a legend. His Radavist interview was a treat to read. One of the funniest quote ever from the exact interview.

*One time on his way home from a late shift in the workshop, he fell off his motorbike into a ditch, he had to work early the next morning so he decided the ditch wasn’t that bad, so he slept in the ditch and then wheeled his bike back to work in the morning.”

Finding my feet at the track after 21 years away. I took my race bike to MADE and on Saturday drove to Eugene to race day 2 at the USA BMX national. I surprisingly ended up with two thirds which made for a fun display on Sunday back at the show.

Looks great!

Bonded carbon seat tube? Or silver brazed steel tube?

Similar colour, but not the same bike from a few posts back?

Bonded carbon, this is a different bike.

Question for you BMX frame builders:
If you are building with mid BBs, what are you reaming them with?
A PF41 reamer is about .012” undersized. That’s a pretty tight press fit. Too tight, I think.
I’m haven’t found any other reamers.
Or maybe you’re not getting enough distortion to require reaming? Heat sinks?
What’s the secret?

They just built a new asphalt pump track near my home. My daughter wants a custom BMX frame…

This is going to be controversial, but I don’t. I use good heat sinks and weld sequence and things press in nicely. Better than many frames I’ve bought in the past. I’ve used S&M bottom brackets on my bmx builds so far, we’ll see how things go with the Solid “sharkfin” versions for my current builds…

Fair enough. That’s kinda what I figured when I couldn’t find any reamers anywhere.
I could always put in on the mill table and hit it with the boring head, but that sounds like work.

Not controversial at all. Most frames are built this way! Only framebuilders try to use really thin BBs (which distort more) and are obsessed with post-reaming things.
