I don’t think it’s a Prismatic powder. Pretty sure it’s another brand but the colour is Flame Red. Fire truck red basically.

Everyone knows red bikes are faster! (And I’m not kidding actually, I do notice that I get more excited and energetic when I ride a red bike and ride with a very different mindset)
Looks really sleek I love it, especially the rocker mount.
I’m a sucker for logos that pop out of the paint too, I’d love to do that too one day!

Fantastic builds mate!
It was good to see you there. Too bad we didn’t have much time to catch up! The usual show craziness always takes over.

Same mate. Love what you are doing at Curve. Some really clever design work going on. We need to plan a free day to go ride bikes somewhere next year.

Cheers! Great to hear that the details I agonise over don’t go unnoticed.

I’m 100% down for that.
The show days just fly past. Would be so good to have a wind-down day to go ride. Let’s plan something for next year!

Better than any show pic mate!

It’s a beast to ride. In a good way. There were sections I had to slow down as I couldn’t focus on the trail and react quick enough. It carries speed so easily it is insane. I don’t have the skills to ride to it’s potential which as a designer is super satisfying but also is a dent on the ego as a rider. haha.

Tassie is truely a great spot for MTB!

Have you explored some of the trails behind the Cascade brewery? South Hobart I think?

There is some GNARLY stuff behind the brewery!

So many great trails at Maydena too… zen garden, sticks and stones, thrash horse, gnar yeah…

I’ve ridden South Hobart a few times. There is some stuff in there I just shake my head at. Not in a few lifetimes would I ever hit those features. It’s mental.

So got my 3D prints from Protosoon today. The finish on them is good. There are a couple spots that the print isn’t super clean but I am not concerned. A couple spots I think I’ll massage a tiny bit in the model just to refine the net shape.

Two issues popped up with a couple parts which mean they are unsable.

First is I didn’t click the right material on the seat stay brace piece. Aluminium won’t work on my bikes. so placing anoth order.

Second is my doing initially. I didn’t put a breather/bleed hole in the rocker arms. They are hollow so need to have a means for air to move in and out and also to evacuate the trapped powder. Unfortunately during either printing or heat treatment the parts has expanded and warped. I could have maybe kept them for myself but they ended up way out of alignment. I’ve emailed the company as I want to know how they evacuated the powder or if they have left it in there.

The other thing that has come back to questioning is whether to go to a full stressed skin/monocoque style shape or thin the shell out and use a lattice support on the inside. Having the lattice would possibly have maintained the shape but it’s an important lesson for everyone deisigning 3d parts to not have closed off voids in the parts.

It’s an obvious thing when you look at these parts but it was easily missed when finalising the modelling and placing the order. Another error that reinforces having check lists, which I still haven’t implemented.
