Park Whip ™️ ©️ ®️ part 2, The Revenge!

I have to find bolts and hardware for bikes and using standard hardware is cheapest. So I’ve measured a lot of bolts and had to choose spec and specify length quite a lot.

That was tricky. That wide piece is a chunk of airplane aero tube, basically an oval with one small end, so getting everything to land on it right was…tricky. I made the short 3/4 piece 3 times before i got it right.

I decided to drop the seat stay so the chain wouldn’t just constantly rub, I hate rattles and chain slap, now I have space for a stfu style chain device. And as a bonus, I think it looks super cool. Gonna be really tight right there between the pivot and the chainring, but i think i got it figured.

If i measured right (doubtful) there should be about 3.25" clearance at the tire nubs. I run a 2.35 Magic Mary, it’ll be kinda snug but i think it’ll go. Anyhoo…

Its raining and hailing and I dont give a shit because I got a roof. I’ve never really had a roof before, it’s really nice.

Looking good.

Fyi there is a 3d print file for an “STFU” style guide on Printables and when printed in TPU works really good.

Thanks and thanks!

Got the upper shock mount tacked in, I’m gonna call it…cozy. Granted, there’s just a sharpie where the shock hardware is supposed to be, but that’s about where the rear is going to land and I can’t fit a 4mm allen between the shock and the seat tube.

That pull link is gonna be about 3" long and live right about there. That rocker link is gonna be fuckin’ huge (sorry for the industry terminology) At least it’s gonna be huge in a really busy spot and close as shit to everything, so it’s a basically one huge pinch hazard.

Kinda sorry for the constant updates, but this thing is just stuck in my brain and I dont have any friends in real life to bother with it. Stupid bike woke me up at 4am the other morning, just thinking aboit it… I’ve pretty much given up on doing anything productive until this is handled. I even forgot to eat the other day because I was just in the zone.

Both of you still reading this know I can’t cad my way out of a paper sack, so I’m really seeing this for the first time as it slowly appears in front of me, it just lived in my brain until now. It’s like magic, or something. I know I’ve never seen anything like it and the more “it” there is, the more I like what I’m seeing. Im really excited to see it together. I’ve got a few more really small parts to make, a butt load more welding, and then the paint and junk.

4 weeks 'till bike park.

:rofl::joy:

Just stuck the wheel in place to land the brake mount, it actually a) fits 2) doesn’t appear to be crooked d) seems to have ample clearance everywhere. Cool.

Kinda funny to think that this bike…

Has the same chainstay, seat tube angle, and a real similar top tube measurement to this bike

This is gonna be so stupid. I really can’t wait.

I needed some fillers for between these plates, I was just going to cut some flat and call it good until i picked up the dt drop and discovered it fit between those plates just perfectly. So now they’re round.

I know I’m mostly good for dick jokes and reasons you probably shouldn’t do drugs, but this might be an actual tip.

I took a little inspiration from our friends across the pond and decided sealed main tubes are the only way to fly. This presents a bit of a problem trying to weld the last bit because the air in the tube gets hot, expands and pushes right out the hole you’re trying to weld. It sucks. Drill a small hole under where a gusset or something will land, finish weld the tube and a little silicon bronze will literally jump into that hole like it’s a friggin lemming. File it flat, put a gusset over it. Now your tubes are all sealed up. No water, no air, no rust.

Ugh. I’m so tired of welding. There are 11 joints to weld on the front triangle, I don’t remember if that includes the shock mount, but I think it does. The rear has 24. And a bunch of them are a fuckin mission to get to.

I’m mostly done, got my bmx head tube gussets mostly finished, rear triangle is nearly done. I actually put a single cable guide on it, this is my 6th frame and the first one to get a real braze-on. I’m at the “make a list on some cardboard” phase of the project, which is always encouraging.

Anyhoo…

I guess it’s just a big jump bike :man_shrugging: The new fork decals are mint.

Just in case anyone forgot who I am, thats a little 16g exhaust tubing right there. I used every singe inch of the 1 3/4 downtube drop and just needed the teensiest bit… it’s fuckin clown shoes but i wasn’t ordering more chromoly for that.

I don’t like to weld across main tubes for reasons I probably can’t justify, so that whole piece (and the head tube braces and the shock mount plates) is silly bronzed in. Etc, etc, mashed potatoes.

That’s looking fun!
What tubing did you use for your chainstays?

I’m sitting on the floor, just staring at it. It’s so silly!

The whole rear triangle is 3/4 .047" except where the bolt for the link goes, that’s .120" it’s its own bushing.
