Shapeways is dead! Long live Shapeways!

Recommendations for a 3D printer that can provide stainless steel parts would be appreciated.

A few people on here use China-based services like IN3DTEC or PCBway.

Another one that I’ve come across, but never used, is Protosoon. Also based in China.
Their marketing email that I got a few months ago contained photos of 3D printed frame parts that looked like the creative output of he-who-shall-not-be-named.

Then there’s Zelta3D based in Singapore.
I’ve had some sample dropouts printed by them and I can snap a photo to show what they look like when I get to the office.

Jens at 3DPBS.com. Framebuilder himself so he understands tolerances and print directions a bit better than some other steel/titanium printers.

Here are a few snaps of what the surface finish is like. This is straight from Zelta - no additional finishing after receiving the print.

The two holes in the last photo are to let the powder escape. The dropout is hollow.

For US based steel I’d recommend Cumberland Additive. They have a bike guy who’d be excited to print bike stuff. I haven’t used them in a long time but Protolabs might be worthwhile to check out. Have a lot of friends there and they specialize in quick turn, low cost parts. Most of the contract manufacturers in the US have certifications for aerospace production, which you will be paying for going through them, so Protolabs may be cheaper because they don’t have all of those certifications.
