I needed to extend the threads on a 1” steerer and didn’t want to spend the $150 for a Park die. I found an off the shelf 1” x 24tpi die ($32) but it didn’t fit any of my handles. I looked at the Park crown race cutter handle and devised this. Anyone that says a lathe isn’t a life necessity has never owned a lathe.

Indeed, there is a lathe shaped hole in my life.

There is a saying among machinists that a lathe is “the only machine tool that can replicate itself”.

Nice work on the adapter BTW.

Shades of Richard Talbot:) Andy.

Once again I’m deciding to contribute my bad ideas. I had to figure out a jig to place the threaded barrel adjusting nuts I made for my road bike. This is my jig.

It worked great and was easy to bend to shape to angle the nuts the correct direction. I just clamped it to the head tube.

Not a bad idea if it works!

I have made quick sacrificial jigs out of spokes and even wood, if it works it’s not stupid

Made a couple of binder boss fixtures.
I’m always fighting the things, and end up crooked.

Had to use some spacers to get the bosses at the right spot

Looks good! Do those screws come out easily after brazing?

They did this time. Stainless screws might be a good way to go

Stainless binds even more, the best way is removing all but a few threads on 12.9 bolts and dipping it in milk of magnesia (drugstore bottle is fine). The threadless part keeps if located, better than just using shorter bolts, and the magnesia creates an oxide layer that prevents binding. I’ve stuck a fair amount of bolts in eyelets, canti posts and stems, unless you tack them first thats the best solution. Apparently thats what they do in the aviation industry, you can purchase the same bottles on aircraft supply websites:
