Show off your shop-made/DIY Tools!

You should consider keeping a container with some water on the bottom to kill all sparks, also useful to quickly cool off the piece you are working on while you work on it. Would be neat to have the water-bucket being integrated with the stand

That looks like a seriously nice and compact grinder. Are you going to set it up for some mitering?

You should start selling these. I’d buy one in a heartbeat since I’ve had 2 out of 3 frames with tire or chainring rub!!!

It’s probably not powerful enough for mitering and the band speed is a bit too slow… I didn’t consider that when I bought it, I use my vertical mill for mitering. This sander will be mainly for deburring and some rounding off and chamfering maybe

If you like, I can give you the print files and you just find someone to print it for you

That would be awesome.

Hi! new builder here from Barcelona!

Slowly making my first frame, plus the tooling :joy:

This is the frame Jig i designed and made, did millions of iterations until i came to this which is pretty simple imo and happy with the result, i checked everything and it’s right on! Plus it’s on wheels!

Happy to be part of this Forum!

Kind regards,

Aleix Bartomeus

I hope you have a really long T square, i’m imagining a really beautiful vintage wooden one, maybe with a few scorch marks…

nice work on the jig, looks sturdy. I know at least one other beginning Framebuilder in barća (barna?) who’s also working their way through the tooling problem, if you want someone local to bounce ideas off, and borrow brazing rod from when you run out, I can pass on a contact; dm me.

Cheers man,

It’s still a working progress but came out pretty straight being mild steel tubing plus the Laser cut without machining.

Are you talking about Jordi? or Cristian?

neither, so it sounds like you need to start a workshop night!

You will have some alignment issues, your design looks great but the steel square tubing is never straight. I use 2x5 and 2x2 square tubing on my jig as well and even on short length like 1m I have several millimeters of misalignment.

My jig was designed in a way so I can use a laser adapter on the BB to align every part of it, it’s a pain to do it but it’s a way to have it actually be straight.

I would consider a similar solution to align it as well if you don’t have it already.

Square tubing varies in quality. If you get the stuff called “bright mild” (in UK) it’s usually straighter. It’s very good from my local supplier. But I still made my jig adjustable in all the key dimensions so I can check it with a laser (or just by eye which I actually think is more accurate). Also because I made it all with hand-tools.

Hi Matt,

I checked with the laser alignment and everything came out dead straight!
